Philosophy

Save Some Thyme is a business in which I thrive on using the freshest ingredients adopted by the seasons. I am a true believer in incorporating organic produce and meats into our diets to support better health, economy of local farmers, and our environment! I am originally from Seattle Washington and I have always grown up with beliefs in using the freshest produce available and ridding our systems of toxic chemicals sprayed on crops to preserve them for longer periods due to shipping internationally and corporations filling their pockets without realizing the consequences of health hazards. I have several years experience cooking privately for families (including my own which before I met my husband he had one of the worst combinations of diet that consisted of lots of red meat, conventional produce and refined pastas and sugars!) So if I can convince him (sometimes hiding tofu and other nutrient rich foods into his meals!) anyone who is not familiar with the wave of organic eating would never know the difference from comfort food favorites to upscale fare! Kids alike will be impressed, and I use wheat germ (unless of course there are allergies that could deter from this) as a simple added nutrient on many meals like brown rice macaroni and cheese, crispy baked broccoli with a sesame tamari dip (my version of tempura!) and baked chicken fingers with homemade ketchup! I have a fairly picky 2 year old daughter that encourages me to be creative in sending healthy food into her belly! So it does take lots of trials and errors and a ton of patience….but eventually I have found even if she takes two out of ten new ventures…I am satisfied! And of course continue trying to convince her how wonderful maple glazed carrots over ginger brown rice can be or roasted carrot soup with baked raisin bread croutons is! One day she may surprise me, I hope.. lots of love and joy go into all of my meals and it is always nice to know that somebody has a full and happy tummy!

My recipes are unique and (I am told) quite delicious using nothing refined (I only use brown rice , whole wheat, spinach and tomato pastas, and definitely no white bread or sugar!!) this is better for our system to break down the sugars that occur naturally in all pastas and turn it into useful carbs for energy rather than refined carbs that are quite damaging and empty fillers. I always include fresh vegetables into my dishes and never use canned. I buy free range and antiobiotic free meats and poultry and , as difficult as it can be sometimes here in the Midwest, I like to buy wild caught fish. I also cook macrobiotic recipes and can take special dietary requests too! Again, the emphasis is on health, and consciousness digesting food that will put good energy into our engines!!! I assure you my meals are not rabbit food, or cardboard, quite opposite…memorable, guilt-free and flavorful fare! If you have a family favorite that you would like me to convert into something that tastes similar but with less calories and fat I welcome the challenge with anticipation! Thank you for reviewing my food philosophies and my business! I am always available to answer any questions you may have! Remember…Health is Wealth!
